Who Took Home the NBA Cup in 2024? Full Results After the Las Vegas Final Between Oklahoma City Thunder and Milwaukee Bucks
The 2024 NBA Cup has come to an exciting conclusion, with a new champion being crowned after a thrilling final in Las Vegas. This year, the Milwaukee Bucks have emerged as the winners, dominating the Oklahoma City Thunder with a convincing 97-81 victory.
Giannis Antetokounmpo was named the tournament's MVP following an outstanding triple-double performance in the final. The Greek Freak finished with 26 points, 19 rebounds, and 10 assists, showing why he's one of the league's most unstoppable forces. Meanwhile, his teammate Damian Lillard contributed 23 points, shooting an impressive 50% from beyond the arc.
On the other side, Thunder star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who has been one of the breakout players of the season, was held to just 21 points on 24 shot attempts. The Bucks' defense was suffocating throughout the game, limiting Oklahoma City's shooting from deep to a mere 15.6%, and effectively shutting down any chance of a Thunder comeback.
How the NBA Cup Works
The NBA Cup is structured around two main stages: the Group Play phase and the Knockout Rounds. It all kicks off with Group Play, where the 30 NBA teams are split into five groups based on their records from the previous season. Each team faces off against the other four teams in their group, playing two home games and two away games. Once these group matches are done, the top six teams from each group, along with two wild cards (the top teams in Group Play that finished second in their groups), move on to the Knockout Rounds.
In the Knockout Rounds, eight teams compete in a single-elimination format, starting with the quarter-finals, followed by the semi-finals, and then the Championship Game. One key point to remember is that all 67 games played in the NBA Cup count toward the regular season standings—except for the Championship match.
Who Took Home the NBA Cup in 2023?
Looking back to last year, the Los Angeles Lakers were crowned the first-ever NBA Cup champions after a strong performance in the final. LeBron James and the Lakers defeated the Indiana Pacers 123-109 to claim the title, with Anthony Davis putting on a show, scoring 41 points and grabbing 20 rebounds.
